Eighteen-year-old
Melanie Serr of Alberta, Canada, was preparing for college when
she was diagnosed with a tumor on the frontal lobe of her brain.
One day, without warning, she had a seizure. At first, the doctors
thought the tumor was not life-threatening. However, after a 7-hour
surgery, Melanie's parents, Ken and Donna, were told that the
tumor was worse than they imaged. The surgeon had only been able
to remove 70% of it without risking permanent brain damage.
There was
more devastating news. The tumor was malignant. The tumor would
keep growing back, each time more aggressively. Chemotherapy and
irradiation may only buy some time. Melanie's changes of surviving
5 years were only about 10%. The doctors said there was no other
treatment and that without chemotherapy and irradiation, Melanie
would not live for more than a few months.
Ken and Donna
were devastated. Melanie put herself in the hands of God.
At home, Donna
began searching for information on the Internet. One night she
read an article about Dr. Burzynski. Donna knew this was the answer
to their prayers.
After 9 months
on antineoplaston therapy, in June of 1999, a PET scan showed
that the tumor was gone. Melanie is once again enjoying a normal
life.
