Ana Maria Capunay
In November 2011 my mother, Ana Maria Capunay, was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer. My mother, a retired college professor, is not a smoker nor were there any other cases of lung cancer in her immediate family. Up until that time she was relatively healthy except for the occasional asthma. My family is pretty close, and our mother is everything to us. So when she, at the age of 71, was given a dire prognosis that included two masses in the brain (one of which was inoperable) and one in the lung, needless to say my family and I saw our lives shatter. With my dad's tears in his eyes pleading that there has to be something done that can save his wife and high school sweetheart, my heart sank. During this time I was in the middle of co-writing a stage play when I obviously had to back out due to this news. I called my director, Rick Mowat, to explain why I can't move further with our project. His silence was deafening, you'd think it was his mother hit with the news. He said he understood and hung up. Rick later emailed me with a link to the Burzynski documentary, Cancer is Serious Business. He urged to to at least think about an alternative treatment. It's worth investigating, he said, since my mom literally had nothing to lose. He knew that my mom decided if she was stage 3 or lower she would go the conventional route. However, since my mom was leaning towards no treatment at all then it was certainly worth a shot. My family and I read up a lot and did the research to make sure everything we learned was on the up and up. We were going to make the decision as a family.
When my mom gave the green light to take her to the Burzynski clinic in Houston, she had grown so weak that she unable to walk-- she had to be carried in and out of the airplane and placed in her wheelchair. In Houston, my dad and I would bathe, dress and feed her. When we arrived at the Burzynski Clinic we laid her down on the couch in the lobby as we awaited our appointment, and she promptly fell asleep due to her weakened state. We then met with several doctors including Dr. Burzynski, and he advised that he can treat my mom as her cancer was a genetic mutation, which was his strength and specialty in treatment. Within one week of taking Dr. Burzynski's phenylbuyrate ,or PB, my mom was walking on her own, albeit still weak. Nonetheless, it was a huge jump from being carried around everywhere. Dr. Burzynski never promised anything to us. He said he can treat her with the PB along with conventional/ low dose chemotherapy. Along with the PB, my mom was on Avastin and Tarceva. In nine moths all masses had disappeared. In five years she was able to report her cancer as in remission.
We wanted to contribute our story to this site as it is very important for people to keep an open mind. The trolls and skeptics online do their very best to scare people away from Dr. Burzynski and other alternative doctors. Do yourselves a favor: read Suzanne Somers' book, Knockout; eat as much organic foods as possible; learn abut apricot seeds and soursop juice; drink kombucha tea and vitamin supplements. All of these foods are what my mother intakes daily to maintain her health after her diagnosis. She continues to juice green vegetable every day, as well.
My family wish to thank Dr. Burzynski and the doctors at his clinic, we are forever grateful. We wish to thank our friends and family who helped educate us on healthier foods and lifestyle. We want to extend a special and warm thank you to Rick Mowat! The information was handed down to us by his sincere love for my family, and it is our duty to pass along the information to others. I hope anyone reading this testimonial would be persuaded to at least investigate for yourselves. We did, and we are now celebrating another holiday with our beautiful and heroic mother.
