Mary K. Brittian
On February 26, 2006, I was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. I felt as if I was pushed off a tall building and began rapidly falling to the ground. It was “fly or die” time. It was then that I realized the true power of my inner survivor skills. I knew that there was no amount of money, nor any one person, that could help me now: this was between my Creator and myself.
And so began my journey. I began to fly. On this journey, I have expanded my faith and learned the meaning of hope, trust and patience. I have learned that life and living are not necessarily the same thing. When faced with an actual expiration date, having been told that I could die within a few years, I decided to focus on living. I learned to appreciate every breath as a privilege and a gift!
I had a biopsy done at Duke University because the tumor is virtually inoperable, and was offered a clinical trial with chemo. Instead, I chose a non-traditional treatment with Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski in Houston, Texas after being referred by a friend, who also had the same type of brain tumor. He is now 15 years cancer free! I trust my sense of intuition and relied on it in this very important decision making process. I also learned to “tweak” my nutrition through juicing and lifestyle changes which fit perfectly with my treatment plan.
I changed my diet and lifestyle after going to Hippocrates Health Institute last year, became vegan (I've been a vegetarian for years) and also eat lots of raw veggies and green juices. (We loved Hippocrates so much that we actually created a hybridized version in Atlanta with the Jobri Center). I pray and meditate as part of my daily ritual. I do believe that everyone has their own "code" to crack in healing cancer though there are some common denominators. If you land on a treatment that you can believe in and have a deep sense of self empowerment along the way, you're half way there! I decided that Dr. B's treatment was my cure and I have and continue to say a prayer with my meds asking specifically what I want them to do in my body. God has huge ears! Changing what you eat, drink and think is a necessity...because if you always do what you always did, you always get what you always got....You must change something in order to heal!
I consider myself extremely fortunate: after over five years into this adventure in life and learning, I am in stable condition and am only left with a mass of scar tissue. I am continuing on a low dose of PB, Amino Care and Brain Longevity, just in case. I also take very strong pancreatic enzymes in between.
Today, I am happy, living a healthy lifestyle and focused on working with other cancer patients by helping them make wise treatment and lifestyle choices. I am forever grateful to Dr. Burnzyski and his wonderful staff for helping give me the opportunity to enjoy my life in spite of a devastating cancer diagnosis.
So, that's my nutshell! I will put it out there again to the guy who's story initially got me to the clinic.
